Akkha Masoor Dal

Servings - 2 - 3

INGREDIENTS

Washed whole red lentils - 250 grams

Water - 900 milliliters

Salt - 1 teaspoon

Oil - 2 tablespoons

Ginger garlic paste - 1 tablespoon

Onions - 95 grams

Tomato - 145 grams

Turmeric - 1/4 teaspoon

Red chili - 1 teaspoon

Cumin - 1/2 teaspoon

Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon

Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon

Salt - 1/4 teaspoon

Coriander - for garnishing

PREPARATION

1. In a pressure cooker, add 250 grams washed whole red lentils, 900 milliliters water, 1 teaspoon salt and mix well.

2. Cover it with and cook on medium heat till you hear 3 whistles. Remove it from heat and keep aside.

3. Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a heavy pot, add 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste and saute for 2 - 3 minutes.

4. Add 95 grams onions and fry till translucent.

5. Now, add 145 grams tomato and saute till it turns soft and pulpy.

6. Then, add 1/4 teaspoon turmeric and stir well.

7. Add 1 teaspoon red chili, 1/2 teaspoon cumin, 1 teaspoon coriander powder, 1/2 teaspoon garam masala, 1/4 teaspoon salt and mix it well.

8. Now, add the cooked dal in it and mix it well. Bring it to a boil.

9. Garnish with coriander.

10. Serve hot with roti.
