INGREDIENTS
Split bengal gram - 250 grams
Hot water
Water - 750 milliliters
Turmeric - 1/4 teaspoon
Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
Oil - 2 teaspoons
Ginger paste - 1/2 teaspoon
Garlic paste - 1/2 teaspoon
Onions - 70 grams
Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
Green chili - 1 tablespoon
Tomato - 160 grams
Red chili - 1 teaspoon
Coriander - 1 teaspoon
Turmeric - 1/8 teaspoon
Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
PREPARATION
1. Rinse and soak 250 grams split bengal gram in enough hot water for 30 minutes.
2. Add the split bengal gram in a skillet, add 750 milliliters water, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric, 1/4 teaspoon salt and close the lid. Cook it for about 10 - 15 minutes. Dal should be soft. Keep it aside.
3. Heat 2 teaspoons oil in a heavy skillet, add 1/2 teaspoon ginger paste, 1/2 teaspoon garlic paste and cook for a minute.
4. Add 70 grams onions, 1/2 teaspoon salt and cook till they become translucent.
5. Add 1 tablespoon green chili, 160 grams tomato and cook till they get soft.
6. Add 1 teaspoon red chili, 1 teaspoon coriander, 1/8 teaspoon turmeric , 1/2 teaspoon garam masala and mix well. Sauce for a minute.
7. Add the cooked dal with its water and mix well.
8. Let it come to a boil. Simmer for 5 minutes.
9. Garnish with roasted dry red chili and cumin seeds.
10. Serve hot with rice or roti.
