Green Chana Paneer Masala

INGREDIENTS

Green chickpeas - 250 grams
Water - 1800 milliliters, divided
Salt - 1 teaspoon
Black cardamom - 1 pod
Cinnamon stick - 1
Paneer - 330 grams
Ginger - 2 tablespoons
Garlic - 2 tablespoons
Green chili - 1 tablespoon
Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
Cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Coriander powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Fennel powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Butter - 2 tablespoons
Oil - 40 milliliters
Onions paste - 180 grams
Garlic - 2 tablespoons
Ginger - 2 tablespoons
Tomato puree - 180 grams
Green chili - 1 tablespoon
Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
Turmeric - 1 teaspoon
Paprika - 1/2 teaspoon
Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
Coriander - for garnishing
PREPARATION
1. In a bowl, add 250 grams green chickpeas, 1 litre water and soak for overnight.
2. Transfer this into a pressure cooker, add 800 milliliters water, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 pod black cardamom, 1 cinnamon stick and cover it with lid.
3. Cook till you hear 2 whistles.
4. Remove it from heat and keep aside.
5. In a mixing bowl, add 330 grams paneer, 2 tablespoons ginger, 2 tablespoons garlic, 1 tablespoon green chili, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder, 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder, 1/2 teaspoon fennel powder and mix it well.
6. Marinate for 20 minutes.
7. Heat 2 tablespoons butter in a skillet, add the marinated paneer in it.
8. Cook until it turns golden brown in color from all sides.
9. Heat 40 milliliters oil in a skillet, add 180 grams onions paste and cook until it turns golden brown in color.
10. Add 2 tablespoons garlic, 2 tablespoons ginger and stir well.
11. Then, add 180 grams tomato puree and mix it well.
12. Cook for 3 - 5 minutes on medium heat.
13. Add 1 tablespoon green chili and mix it well.
14. Now, add 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon turmeric, 1/2 teaspoon paprika, 1 teaspoon cumin powder, 1 teaspoon coriander powder, 1 teaspoon garam masala and mix it well.
15. Then, add the cooked green chickpeas and mix it well.
16. Bring it to a boil.
17. Now, add the cooked paneer in it and mix it well.
18. Bring it to a boil again.
19. Cook for 5 - 7 minutes on medium heat.
20. Garnish with coriander.
21. Serve hot.
